The information contained in the video is valuable and important. It certainly shows that Alzheimer's disease is a threat to our citizen's and the well being of our nation.....By Bob DeMarco
Alzheimer's Reading Room
Last week many of the leading Alzheimer’s disease advocates, top researchers, health care experts, and others met at the White House to commemorate World Alzheimer’s Day.
It will be interesting to see if the news of the video gets disseminated by the national media tonight or in the next week (the video was just released).
Or, if the video remains a secret to the growing number of Americans that have been touched by Alzheimer's disease (over 100 million), and the growing number of American's that are worried about Alzheimer's disease (over 35 million and growing fast).
The information contained in the video is valuable and important. This presentation leaves no doubt that Alzheimer's disease is a threat to our citizens, and a threat to the financial well being of our nation.
I believe this video would have been more effective, more valuable, and more widely disseminated if the White House brain trust had broken it down into a series of videos by topic, panel, and speaker(s).
Unfortunately, no one asked me my opinion.
The following is a detailed video presentation of the meeting.
From the White House Blog:
The Obama Administration is committed to strengthening our nation’s response to Alzheimer's disease and this meeting was a serious effort to better understand the challenges and opportunities available to us.
The meeting brought together some of the Administration’s key leaders in responding to the disease, including Dr. Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Kathy Greenlee, Assistant Secretary for Aging at HHS, Dr. Richard Hodes, Director of the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health, and Nancy-Ann DeParle, Director of the White House Office of Health Reform.
The meeting also included distinguished outside experts as well. Admiral David Satcher, former United States Surgeon General and Assistant Secretary for Health and member of the bipartisan Alzheimer’s Study Group presented key recommendations from the Study Group’s report. We were also joined by people living with Alzheimer’s disease, nationally recognized researchers, and persons with expertise in health care delivery and family caregiving issues.
By coming together and recommitting ourselves, we can and must do more to tackle this serious challenge.
I encourage you to watch the video of the meeting.
