Dotty
Dotty went to Heaven last Friday. Doesn't seem like its been a week.

Instead of YouWho I'm awake you know, its very quiet in here these days.

I'll start taking my own advice, and doing some of the things that create awareness and happiness.

I am heading off to the Banana Boat (BB) this evening. The BB is one of the places that Dotty and I use to go to to hang out, eat, and socialize.

I already talked to the mayor of the BB Helen, so everyone or mostly everyone already knows about Dotty.

One of the best decision I made was to start going weekly with Dotty to the BB. For those of you who are new, here is an article I wrote about our experience, A Wonderful Moment in Time, Mom at the Banana Boat. The version you will be reading was written in February, 2009. I did have an earlier version.

I have a vivid image of the look on mom's face and of us dancing. I will have that image in my mind forever. This is the kind of moment that really knocks home to me why I am here with mom. Moments like this help keep me energized and focused.

One of the things I have not been doing is exercising. I have to get on the stick soon. Like I said, its time to start taking my own advice.

Here is an article I wrote about exercise and Dotty, Can Exercise Slow the Progression of Alzheimer's Disease?. You have to read down a bit to get to the meat and potatoes.

One of the very first decisions I made in 2004 was that I needed to get Dotty into a real exercise problem. Imagine she was almost 88 years old. And, she had never been in a gym in her life.

We have a ton of articles on exercise and Alzheimer's, exercise and cognition, and exercise and the positive effects that exercise has on older people. Just enter the word exercise into the search box over on the right hand side of this page. We have around 18 articles on the science, and several more about Dotty and me.

I have been getting my daily injection of bright light. But, I need more. Here is the link to an article I wrote about bright light, Alzheimer's Disease Tip, The Importance of Bright Light.

I often get asked by Alzheimer's caregivers for advice, insight and tips. I've been asked in person, via email or by the media so many times that I narrowed my list down to five recommendations.

We have lots of information on bright light also. You can find more by using the search this blog feature on the right.

Right now, I am going out into the light. Then I will get cleaned up and head over to the Banana Boat.

I have no doubt that this is going to be an interesting experience. If warranted, I'll write about it.
