Memory Cafes: Where are They Located in the U.S. and How to Start Your Own
As of today, November 15, 2012, information on how to create your own Neighborhood Memory Café and a list of known Memory Cafés in the United States is available for all to read.

Go to ThirdAge Services and click the link to Memory Cafes on the left hand side of the page.

You can also learn more about how to start a Memory Cafe by clicking the link labeled -
Want to start a Memory Café in your neighborhood?

We are still developing our list of Memory Cafes. For any Memory Café not listed on our page, please email me the name, location and contact information. You can find my email address on the ThirdAge Services website.

Our Memory Café in Richardson Texas (a suburb of Dallas) is going strong. It first met in June 2012 at the Richardson Senior Center and continues to meet monthly on the first Thursday of each month from 10:00-11:30 am.

We have averaged about 18 people per month. We drink coffee, have baked goods, talk, laugh, play games, do puzzles and just have a good time. We have had couples, parents and children and persons in early stage that come by themselves.

The group of people who started the Richardson Memory Cafe (both professionals in the field of dementia and a family caregiver) will  be handing the running of the group off to the actual participants, and will be initiating other Neighborhood Memory Cafes in the Dallas Area.

We have interest from people in other suburbs of Dallas such as Lewisville, Flower Mound, Frisco, and Garland in starting their own Memory Cafes.

We hope that publishing the “Tool Kit for building a Neighborhood Memory Café" will motivate and assist people not only from Dallas/Ft. Worth, but from all corners of the United States to start their own cafe.

The friendships and joy that emanate from these cafes bring light and life to both the persons with a dementia and also to their care partners. I hope you will begin building yours today!
